Rowan is a native of
Joliet
,
Illinois
, which he called home for thirty six years until he was struck with a love for
the
Rockies
. He received a bachelor’s degree with a major in biology and a minor in
anthropology from
Loyola
University
in
Chicago
. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Loyola College of
Dentistry located in
Maywood
,
Illinois
, practicing dentistry near
Joliet
for ten years. Dr. McQuarrie is a member of the American Dental Association and
is a Fellow in the
Academy
of
General Dentistry
.
In 1987 he moved his young family to
Steamboat Springs
,
Colorado
. There his three children were able to grow up in a small town environment,
play soccer and swim all summer and ski and snowboard all winter. Besides being
a full time dentist over the last 25+ years
Rowan became a paramedic and worked a full time shift for eleven years with the
Steamboat Springs Rural Fire Protection District. In addition, he taught
pre-hospital medicine courses for twelve years at
Colorado
Mountain
College
and provided advanced life support coverage for the Steamboat Springs ski
area’s ski patrol for ten years. Rowan practiced dentistry in Steamboat
Springs for 18 years and has recently been practicing at the Family Dental Group
in the Southgate Mall since he and his wife,
Nancy
moved to
Missoula
late in 2005.
For enjoyment Rowan enjoys scuba diving, skiing and cross country
motorcycling. He is a member of the Motorcycling Doctors Association (www.motorcyclingdoctors.com)
and has earned a membership in the Iron Butt Association (www.ironbutt.com).
Because of his anthropological interest in tattoos as symbols representing an
individual’s personality and culture, Rowan has been placing tattoos for many
years, owning his own studio in Steamboat Springs. He is a graduate of the World
s Only Tattoo School in
Detroit
,
Michigan
. To get in touch with some of his Scottish ancestry Rowan started playing the
bagpipes in 1995 and has played for weddings, funerals and public events but
mostly for his own enjoyment and to keep feral cats out of his yard.
